Minami Restaurant is recognized as the North American Home of Aburi Sushi. Minami offers a combination Japanese and West Coast cuisine in a comfortable rustic space. We create a welcoming atmosphere with impeccable service, providing a memorable dining experience. Currently, we are looking for a permanent, full-time Sous-Chef to join our team.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise activities of chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers
  • Fill in for the Executive Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques and new equipment to cooking staff
  • Manage and train kitchen staff, establish working schedule and assess staff’s performance
  • Prepare and cook meals when necessary
  • Maintain order and discipline in the kitchen during working hours
  • Help in planning menus and come up with new dishes which appeal to the clients
  • May requisition food and kitchen supplies

 

Education, skills and experience required:

  • Completion of Secondary School
  • At least three years of experience in commercial food preparation is required
  • Knowledge or experience in preparation of Japanese cuisine is strong asset but not a requirement
  • Ability to maintain high quality control standards under high pressure and fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work well in a team

 

Language:

  • Communication skills in English

 

Compensation and Benefit:

$26.50 - $30.00/hour, 4% vacation pay, Tips and Staff meals

Extended medical and dental after 3 months’ probation period
