Position Description:  General Labor / Metal Pickers – (mechanically inclined)

Exempt/Non-Exempt:  Non-Exempt                                                

Department: Maintenance

Reports to: Manager, Plant Yard

Wages: $17.50 per hour

 **Please note we are located on Mitchell Island, with limited to no access for public transportation**

A Comprehensive Benefits Package will be provided after 3 months of continuous employment.


Job Summary: General Labor / Metal Pickers – (mechanically inclined)

 Sort scrap metal or plastic according to grade and size by performing the following duties, as follows:

- Removal of metal/plastic from sorting table, hand-truck, or conveyor types of metal/plastic by sight on sorting table.

- Keeping work area clean

- May be assigned to operate or repair simple mechanical equipment

- Other duties or special projects as may be assigned



Job requirements:

-High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience

 and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

-Forklift Certification

-Must pass pre-employment physical screens, background check.

-Must be able to comfortably wear all Personal Protective Equipment. (I.e. Uniforms, Safety glasses,

 Steel Toed Shoes, Hardhat, earplugs)

-Safety conscious

 -Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

-Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers,

 clients, and other employees of the organization.

-Good interpersonal skills

-Ability to be at the job site on short notice

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment can be loud at times.
