Competencies/Responsibilities required:
- Demonstrate respectful and professional behavior
- Strong interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain contact with many educational partners and to collaborate with other staff regarding program development and plans
- The ability to address conflicts or challenges with the children and co-workers
- The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality
- An awareness of developmentally appropriate practices, child-centred, and play-based practices as outlined in the Nova Scotia Early Learning Curriculum Framework
- The ability to work with a diversity of developmental needs and create an inclusive, individually appropriate environment
- The desire and ability to engage in continuing education and professional development (at least 30 hours every 3 years)
- Level 1, 2, or 3 Classification through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development
- Support the observation, authentic assessment and documentation of the children’s developmental progress by completing semi-annual progress reports
- Assist children in personal care growth areas such as toileting, feeding and hygiene
- Maintain proper classroom behavior guidance according to the centre’s behavior guidance policy; create Routine Based Plans as needed
- Input information for parents regarding their child’s day on the HiMama app
- Be familiar with the policies and procedures set out in the Parent Policy Manual
- Adhere to Licensing requirements set out by the Province of Nova Scotia
- Provide First Aid or contact medical help in case of emergencies
- Complete paperwork as needed (ie. daily logbook, program sheets, cleaning logs, etc)
- Administer medication as needed
- Document reportable incidents the same day that the incident occurs. Report must be viewed and signed by the director and parents involved.
- Assist in regular cleaning of toys and equipment
- Attend regular staff meetings and centre-wide activities
- Encourage parent involvement in the program
- Other duties as required
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $19.10-$24.39 per hour
