JOB TITLE – Machine Operator/Line Technician

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Machine Operator/Line Technician in the Burnbrae Grading Station you will have a variety of responsibilities which will include operating multi-function process control machinery through control panels, computer terminals or other control systems to grade eggs and process egg products into a variety of packaging. You will also, observe gauges, computer printouts and video monitors to verify specified processing conditions, clean machines, and immediate work areas, inform supervisors of mechanical malfunctions or product irregularities, make adjustments to process variables such as flow rates, temperature settings; maintain shift log of production and other data, set up and adjust processing and packaging machines, check products for defects and ensure conformance to company standards. The ideal candidate is a team player with high attention to detail who thrives in a fast paced and physically demanding role.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform a pre-operation walkthrough checklist of entire production area to ensure cleanliness before starting machines.
  • Adjust machinery to properly run different products as efficiently as possible-using computer to check size percentages of each producer of eggs.
  • Plan production of the day- which order to run the eggs through the machine, how much and when produce the eggs.
  • Maintain a positive work environment through cooperating with co-workers and management by the way you act and communicate.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), maintain sanitary conditions, and report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
  • Follow HACCP practices and actively promote our safety culture by adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for reporting all incidents, accidents, and observations of unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Other Duties as assigned.
  • Ensure machine is filled with adequate and appropriate cartons and adjust according to product type.
  • Communicate with team members, including Quality Control, to ensure enough supplies and products are available based on production needs and that standards of product quality are being upheld.
  • Collaborate with process control and machine operation teams to operate the shrink wrap machine on a rotation basis; adjust machinery to ensure proper placement of lids, labels, and codes.
  • Be aware of every sensor and their purpose.
  • Use box coding machine and computer to properly label boxes for finished products when needed.
  • Keep track of how many finished products are being made and record production information in accordance with standards.
  • Communicate with packers to manage product changes -make sure the correct egg sizes are going into the correct cartons.
  • Check products for defects and ensure conformance to company standards.
  • Trouble shoot issues any machine issues related to timing and alignment.
  • Keep floors tidy of debris and broken egg; move empty pallets and cartons.
  • Communicate with Maintenance team with respect to any issues that require repair and/or maintenance.

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous factory work or equivalent experience in food production environment
  • Experience operating stationary industrial equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Processing information -Inputting, recording, transcribing, and updating data using electronic or manual information systems.
  • Inspecting and Testing.
  • Analyzing data or facts to determine appropriate actions or recommendations.
  • Ability to work within a team setting as well as independently.
  • The flexibility to work various shifts, including days, afternoons, and weekends.
  • Excellent work ethic.
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven commitment to safety and quality; knowledge of HACCP and GMP’s an asset
  • Ability to safely lift 50 lbs. repeatedly throughout shift while bending and twisting in variety movements.
  • Experience using multi-functional process control machinery and single function machines.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Hand-eye co-ordination
  • Ability to stand for extended periods (8 hrs)

 WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Certificate or equivalent Preferred
  • On-the-Job training is provided.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in the food or beverage processing and/or manufacturing environment is an asset.

Shift premium of $0.60/hr. for afternoon shifts
