Do you want to help stop the cycle of intergenerational trauma that has impacted First Nations people, families, and communities? If so, we are looking to hire a Senior Counsellor to lead our dynamic teams who enjoy empowering people who strive to live a good life, from the path of a good heart.

This position requires strong and positive leadership skills to help guide, influence and motivate others to attain the Center’s goals and objectives. Must have a good understanding of the impacts of colonization on Indigenous people; and the ability to provide supervision which promotes a culture of safety and preventative measures for vicarious trauma. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the services and programs align with the NHML’s Vision, Mission, Values and Strategic Plans 
  • Fosters an environment of teamwork by developing and improving methods of effective communication through correspondence and Treatment Team meetings
  • Provides clinical case management by:
    • File Reviews: Ensuring client documentation is accurate, relevant and maintained according to best practices; by reviewing and assessing client case management activities on a monthly basis.
    • Clinical Case Conferences: held bi-weekly to assist Counsellors in collaborating, planning and monitoring the complex needs of clients in their care are met, and includes the client’s hopes, goals and identified needs. 
    • Sign off on Treatment / Continuing Care/Discharge Plans, and outgoing correspondence that relates to clients.
    • Identify and Assist in the development and coordination of ongoing training needs for the Treatment Staff.
  • Submit monthly reports to the Executive Director 
  • Ensure the data collection of persons served is kept updated for reporting requirements

Intake & Admissions

  • Process all applications received from referral agencies 
  • Establish a Screening Committee to assist in the advertisement and screening of potential applicants 
  • Give the Screening Committee all completed applications for their review.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Possess great leadership skills and a suitable blend of the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Considerable knowledge of Best Practices, Standards in the area of substance use and concurrent disorders that will optimize treatment outcomes
  • Demonstrate an awareness of, and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-centered care, demonstrate a considerable knowledge of traditional Indigenous and cultural practices to aid in client’s healing plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • A valid driver’s license, Class 5 minimum or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire

Education And Experience Required:

Graduate from a recognized post secondary institution with degree or certificate in the social sciences, plus a minimum 3 years management experience in a health setting. A suitable combination of education/training and experience may be considered.

Supervisor: Executive Director         

Salary Range: $56,932.47 - $74,919.25 based on qualifications and experience
