We are currently searching for an experienced

 

Photech Environmental Solutions Inc. is an industry-leading hazardous waste management firm based in Niagara Falls, Ontario. We specialize in the packaging, transportation, and recycling/disposal of hazardous waste generated by industrial, institutional, and educational facilities across the province.

 

Photech is a subsidiary of Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, and we are currently seeking a Chemical Technician to join our Niagara Falls, ON team.

 

This position reports to the Chemical Technician Supervisor and is based on-site at the company’s MECP permitted transfer and processing facility in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The role is supported by our plant facilities, with a regular shift running from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Weekend overtime may be required as needed.

Responsibilities: 

  • Work as part of a team in a chemical waste consolidation/processing area.
  • Work under difficult seasonal environment conditions (hot/cold) while impacted by the heavy use of personal protective equipment given the chemical environment.
  • The donning and use of task specific PPE, including but not limited to:  Full face respiratory protection, Poly Coated Tyvek PPE, Hard Hat, CSA approved Safety Boots.
  • Conduct onsite evaluations to assess, categorize and segregate hazardous waste materials by chemical compatibility and disposition streaming.
  • Safely consolidate processable segregated wastes for disposition.
  • Safely repack highly hazardous wastes for disposition.
  • Prepare and label bulk waste containers according to regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Document and maintain accurate records of waste processing activities.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations involving hazardous materials.
    • Safe operation of Photech lift trucks.
    • Occasional weekend work at company hosted household hazardous waste events across Ontario, providing technical chemical ID, segregation and packing services.

 

Basic Requirements: 

  • Minimum 3 years of work experience
  • Completion of a two- or three-year college program in chemical, biochemical or chemical engineering technology or a closely related discipline
  • Ability to work as a member of a team as well as individually
  • Must demonstrate strong verbal and written communication abilities to effectively interact with colleagues, and stakeholders, ensuring clear and professional exchanges of information
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues, develop solutions, and implement strategies to achieve positive outcomes
  • Skilled in building strong, positive relationships with colleagues
  • Valid provincial driver’s license 
  • Must have a reliable form of transportation
  • Must be willing to consent to a criminal background check.
  • Upon employment, you will be required to participate in a random drug screening program (inclusive of THC) as part of our company’s commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to work overtime on a regular basis
  • Must be clean-shaven and able to wear all required safety equipment in both hot and cold temperatures during regular working conditions.
  • The Lab Pack Specialist frequently handles hazardous chemicals and is responsible for donning and doffing personal protective equipment in both hot and cold work environments. This role is considered safety-sensitive

 

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Prior relevant hazardous waste industry experience
  • Certified member of a Health and Safety committee with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the role.
  • Forklift operator with 3 or more years of experience.
