Job Summary


Our busy restaurant is looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking Cook who is passionate about culinary arts. The ideal candidate for this position will be a natural leader who always has a finger on the pulse of current culinary trends. The Cook will be responsible for preparing meals for our diners, kitchen inventory management, and coming up with delectable new dishes to add to our growing menu. Job Description and Duties:



  • Preparing and cooking complete authentic Indian curries, including a wide range of chicken, lamb and tandoori dishes, as well as Indian style breads, rice specialties, and other Indian cuisine dishes on the menu

  • Making complete meals, including Sri Lankan Masala, String Hoppers, and other Sri Lankan delicacies on the menu

  • Cooking Singaporean meals, such as Vegetable and Beef Mee Goreng, Putu Mayam, Seafood and all dishes on the menu

  • Following recipes to prepare appetizers, pasta, lasagna, noodles, raviolis, steaks and desserts, shakes and beverages

  • Plating, assembling and garnishing of all food products according to Nooru Mahal Restaurant specifications

  • Estimating food requirements and costs, planning menu, monitoring and ordering supplies

  • Adhering to food safety rules, quality and control standards as per Nooru Mahal Restaurant Standards

  • Receiving, storage and preparation of all food products according to Nooru Mahal Restaurant specifications and practices and overseeing kitchen operations

  • Controlling the products leaving the kitchen to ensure that each has been properly accounted for

  • Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers

  • Maintaining proper inventory levels of prepared products, supplies and equipment

  • Overseeing washing and cleaning of floors, crockery, utensils and other kitchen equipment to ensure that the necessary hygiene, health, safety and sanitary standards are maintained in the kitchen

  • Performing the duties as a Closing Cook, ensuring that the closing formalities and procedures are completely and accurately carried out per the restaurant standards, and close the store every day at 11.00 PM as scheduled


 


Terms of Employment: Permanent; Full Time; Long Term


 


Hours of Work: 40 hours per week


 


Wages: $14.00 per hour


Overtime: One and one-half times the regular wage rate as per provincial regulations

  • Vacation pay as per provincial regulations will be paid each payday on a semi-monthly basis

Education, Experience and Language Requirements:



  • Completion of High School

  • At least 1 month to less than 7 months of experience as cook

  • Some cooking experience preferably in the areas of Indian Food, Sri Lankan Food and Singaporean Food though necessary training will be provided

  • Able to speak, write, read and understand English

  • Tamil speaking is an asset but it is not a condition or requirement
