Job Summary:


We are seeking a First Cook to add to our team of dedicated kitchen staff. Our ideal candidate has three to five years’ experience as a cook and experience with North American cuisine. We are looking for someone with great attention to detail and produces consistent dishes. Our First Cook must work effectively as a part of a team as they with have to work collaboratively with kitchen staff and front of the house staff. Dedication and efficiency are necessary for success in this position.

Job Description and Duties:



  • Preparing and cooking complete dishes such as pasta, burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads,

  • Plating, assembling and garnishing of all food products in a uniform manner

  • Monitor all dishes leaving the kitchen to ensure quality and good presentation of all food

  • Maintain clean and safe kitchen environment adhering to food safety rules, quality and control standards

  • Receiving, storage and preparation of all food products according to Banter room specifications and practices and overseeing kitchen operations

  • Estimating food requirements and costs, planning menu, monitoring and ordering supplies

  • Maintaining proper inventory levels of prepared products, supplies and equipment

  • Overseeing washing and cleaning of floors, crockery, utensils and other kitchen equipment to ensure that the necessary hygiene, health, safety and sanitary standards are maintained in the kitchen



  • Adhering to food safety rules, quality and control standards as per Banter Room standards

  • Controlling the products leaving the kitchen to ensure that each has been properly accounted for

  • Schedule and supervise kitchen helpers



  • Performing the duties as a Closing Cook, ensuring that the closing formalities and procedures are completely and accurately carried out per the restaurant standards as scheduled



Terms of Employment:
Permanent Full Time, Long Term


Hours of Work: 30 - 40 hours per week


Wages:  $14.00 - $16.00 per hour depending on experience


Overtime: One and one-half times the regular wage rate as per provincial regulations


Benefits Package:



  • Insurance from Workplace Safety and Insurance Board covered by employer

  • Vacation pay as per provincial regulations will be paid each payday on a semi-monthly basis

Anticipated Start Date of Employment:  As soon as possible.


Education, Experience and Language Requirements:



  • Completion of Secondary School is required

  • Able to speak, write, read and understand English



Working Conditions and Physical Capabilities:



  • Repetitive tasks

  • Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending

  • Standing for extended periods

  • Capable of lifting/pushing heavy objects weighing over 40 lbs

  • 3 - 5 years minimum of commercial cooking experience are required

  • Must be available for all hours of operations and shifts including overtime and weekend work as required
