Duties and responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of a residential home building or renovating company

  • Prepare bids for home construction or renovation projects

  • Consult with customers, architects and engineers regarding plans and specifications

  • Select subcontractors and schedule and coordinate their activities

  • Report work progress and budget matters to clients

  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with architects, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • Create and manage the budgets for each project, including supplies, materials and labour

Requirements and skills

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in construction project management of wood-frame and/or concrete residential projects

  • Local experience and, or, knowledge of the Vancouver and Lower Mainland construction industry preferable

  • Experience in construction estimating 

  • Ability to prepare sub-contract scopes of work, call for trade pricing, prepare detailed summary of sub trade prices and prepare sub-contracts

  • Ability to work with contractors, and to coordinate, and manage projects from start to completion

  • Good communication and conflict resolution skills

  • Establish construction schedules and lead times, co-ordinate, update and modify project schedules

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Problem solving and decision-making abilities

  • Proven ability to manage projects, keeping on budget and on schedule
