Head Cook position

The Workshop Vegetarian Café is seeking a Head Cook to lead the Kitchen for retail operations. This is a permanent full-time position. The primary duties include:

  • Hiring and training kitchen staff,
  • Scheduling and management of kitchen staff,
  • Ensuring enforcement of appropriate quality control measures ,
  • Developing new Asian inspired wholesome vegan menu items,
  • Working closely with our production team to see what successful menu items can be turned into wholesale products. 

Candidates must have high school education or better, and several years cooking experience in a commercial setting.  The Workshop Vegetarian Café is committed to the delivery of nutritional and delicious vegetarian Asian (Japanese and other Asian styles) cuisines.  Successful candidates will have the following additional qualifications:

  • Minimum three years’ kitchen experience in commercial setting. Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Confirmed experience and demonstrable abilities with Asian vegetarian food items, including handmade noodles, vegan ramen, miso based sauces and dishes, kombu broth and fermented foods (including natto).

Training or experience with, or knowledge of vegetarian nutrition is a strong asset.

Salary will be $25.50 / hour for a 30 hour week.  Benefits are as per the BC Employment Standards Act
