  • Job duties:

 

-        Cooks are involved with all aspects of food production including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

 

-        Cooks elaborates various monthly menus, ensuring healthy and balanced catering services.

 

-        Ensures that galley staff wear hygiene and safety working clothes/equipment and that hygiene rules are applied in the food preparation.

 

-        Makes sure of the cleanliness of galley, dry provision room, freezers and refrigerated room and will not allow any crew members to enter the galley.

 

-        Manages and takes part in the loading of provisions, checks quality and quantities.

 

-        Performs inventories and forecasts of orders and makes requisitions to Master.

 

-        Makes requisition of all spares and consumables that he may require.

 

-        Is fully aware of the QHSE system implemented on board.

 

-        Is fully involved in her or his safety duties and role and participate actively in the safety drills and exercises.

 

  • Terms of employment: This is a one-time project-based position for a duration of up to 4 months.  This is a non-renewable contract.

 

  • Language of work:  Basic understanding of English speaking maritime terminology is required.

 

  • Wage: between $14,75 and $15,94/hour for average working weeks of 40 to 48 hours based on need

 

  • Location(s) of work: This up to 4-month contract is on-board a cable laying vessel and will take place in both the international and Canadian waters. You will be picked up in St-John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The work will take place in the great north, primarily within the Canadian waters located above the Nunavik region of Quebec.

 

  • Skills requirements:

 

  • Certification as a Cook is required
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a similar capacity on an ocean cruise ship.
  • Must have completed the following on-sea certifications:
    • Survival Craft and Rescue Boats
    • Firefighting.
    • Food safety standards.
    • Ability to be on a work rotation (day, evening, and night shift, as necessary).
    • Capability to multi-task in a fast past environment.
    • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test.
    • Complete criminal background check.
