Job duties:
- Maintain accurate financial records using both manual and computerized systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel), drawing on prior audit experience to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control protocols tailored to the company’s products and retail operations.
- Record daily financial transactions, post journal entries, and reconcile bank, credit card, and e-commerce transactions, ensuring completeness and accuracy based on audit-grade review practices.
- Prepare trial balances and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation, applying analytical skills acquired through finance knowledge and audit engagements to identify anomalies and recommend adjustments.
- Administer payroll processes for production, warehouse, and administrative staff, including wage calculations, direct deposit processing, and statutory deductions (CPP, EI, WCB), ensuring compliance with CRA requirements.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable, managing vendor payments and customer collections across multiple channels (e.g., direct B2B wholesale, online store, and major retail partners such as Sobeys and Save-On-Foods).
- File and remit government reports, including GST/HST, source deductions, workers' compensation, and pension contributions, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
- Prepare and file corporate tax returns, incorporating audit-level documentation standards to support filings and address potential queries from CRA or external auditors.
- Generate internal financial reports to assist management in strategic decisions involving inventory turnover, product margins, and operational cost controls, etc.
- Support external audits by liaising with auditors, organizing working papers, and providing reconciliations.
Skill Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of bookkeeping principles and general ledger systems.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- High accuracy in data entry, financial calculations, and document review.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to resolve discrepancies independently.
- Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.
- Professional discretion and confidentiality with sensitive financial data.
Qualification:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Food products, Insurance, or a related field (required).
- Experience: 2–3 years of relevant experience.
